Face to Face Programmes
The Face-to-Face Islamic law (Sharia) programme was running in London from 1991 till 2003. In 1999, due to the difficulties students faced in getting visa as well as the costs of living in the United Kingdom, the face-to-face programme was transferred to Damascus, Syria, and Baghdad, Iraq.
In the Face-to-Face learning, students have to attend classes for more than 80% of the total class hours per annum.
For the rest of 20%, students are free to choose to attend the classes or refer to the course books, other resources and the references assigned for them by ICIS.
Students sit the exams at the ICIS premises on a specific dates set according to the annual exam time-table.
The final assessment will be allocated as follows:
10% for the first term exam
10% for the second term exam
10% (this mark is to be estimated by the tutor in terms of the student’s class participation and the research the student submits for the concerned module).
70% for the final exam: after the final exam has been done, the exam papers are to be marked with confidential numbers and to be folded and stamped and later marked at the main premises of the ICIS.
The total number of days conduct per academic year is 210. The executive board of ICIS arranges the holidays and anniversaries and other occasions according to the country concerned.
Distance Learning Programmes
Due to increasing number of the applications received from students world wide, ICIS is committed to accept a limited number of those every year to maintain it’s educational and academic level. Also, due to the many problems that prospective students faced to come to London such as obtaining visa, high living and travel expenses, ICIS decided to implement a programme for distance learning, since 1995.
Students who are studying via distance learning are provided with full programme materials such as books in addition to Lectures in audio and video on USB memory sticks.
The distance learning students sit for their final supervised exam at the end of each academic year at the local centres assigned by ICIS in their countries, provided the total number of students reaches 30. Otherwise, students should sit the exam in the nearest local centre or in the main centres of ICIS.
The main advantages of distance learning:
- It enables students to complete their study without contradiction with their work or career.
- The cost is lower than that of face-to-face learning.
- No cultural or family conflicts as students will be staying in their native country.
- Access to education from anywhere at any time.
